Life involves choices. The truth is we are all just one choice away from a better life. That really is all that separates you from any achievement – a choice. Resolve.
Have you ever met someone or known someone that you could not help but notice sabotaged their own existence?
They could not be happy because they were too busy being cynical? Being negative? Picking apart others instead of picking apart themselves? Just their vocabulary makes you tired?
They claimed they want health and fitness but every post on Facebook is a picture of them at a restaurant? Or decadent desserts? The only picture of them at a gym is blank with a caption that read, “Here is a picture of me happy at the gym. I could not picture it either.” The only weight they pick up is their fork or maybe the weight of themselves.
These people claim to be so busy that they have no time for themselves and blame others for the amount of time they “take” instead of recognizing how much of their time they give away.
Rather than being happy for others, they explain away their victories by claiming unfair privilege.
They pursue “love” before they ever define what real love really is and then become bitter when it all falls apart. They attach their happiness to what someone else contributes to their life rather than attempting to find happiness inside of themselves. God forbid you are the one that disappointed them. They find pleasure in making others pay and pay you will.
They would rather have you agree with them than to challenge them with the truth.
These people love drama because that is the only time they feel important.
The only thing they “chase” is the moment without realizing that moments are building blocks to life. If you build on a faulty block, things are going to crumble.
These people are energy suckers. They always look for what could go wrong instead of what could go right.
They get to a point in life where they say, “this is just how the cookie crumbled.” Really, who told them to eat the damn cookie in the first place?
It would seem these people did in fact make a choice, silent and without thought perhaps, but a choice nonetheless.
Don’t be THESE people!
If you are like me, the empath that I happen to be, you want to save these people from themselves. You invest in these people and they do not invest in themselves. They find the “price” too high to pay. Shouldn’t that be telling? I am not saying that we should withhold our goodness from people. I am saying that we must limit our investment. Until people invest in themselves, why should we? Would you put your money in an investment that promised zero return? We cannot be the catalyst for change in someone else’s life. They have to want more. They have to want better – just as we did! The best investment that we can make is in ourselves.
I have struggled with this for so long. I have even tried to figure out why people are like this. I was listening to Jim Rohn who addressed this very subject. He was addressing why liars lie. “Because they are liars and liars lie” was one example that he offered up. He profoundly instructed to quit trying to figure out why people are the way they are but rather to spend the time that you would waste doing so investing in yourself.
What is the best thing we can do for these people aside from pray which is always first?
Be an example. Continue to be ourselves. Motivate. Inspire. Want more. Never let them see you settling for less – that validates them! Pay the price. Put in the time. Be a better you. Smile.
We (the people on this side of the equation) have to develop a thick skin because remember “those” people validate where they are by attempting to tear us down. We cannot let them bring us down but must attempt to pull them up.
A great example. Megyn Kelly in her book “Settle For More” is discussing how her father used a vocabulary that challenged her. She once asked him if he could speak in English to which he replied, “I will not lower my vocabulary to meet yours. Instead you must advance yours to meet mine.” Isn’t that how it should be in life?
We should be unapologetic in our reach for excellence!
Be on the lookout for energy suckers. Do not let them suck your positive energy and spirit from you, your life, or your mission. Go forth and shine!
Until Next Time,
